Sadly no. The movie of the month is a recommendation only. I do provide link where you can stream the films but sadly, at the moment you will need to rent/purchase the movies for yourself. They are usually less than $4/£3 each. I hope to be able to include the movie in the future but for now, this limitation is reflected in the low price.
No, this is an online movie club only.
As this is a digital product, and you gain access to it immediately, I don’t offer refunds. However, I want you to be a happy member of the club so if for whatever reason you wish to cancel, you can do so by following the l8nk in your welcome email or by emailing me and I will cancel your membership from the following month for you, and refund you the remaining months if you’re an Annual Pass holder.
Because movies are like little time capsules. Each one reflects the cares, values, and culture of the time in which it was made and that makes watching them a little bit like time travel. We get to see, hear and feel a tiny portion of the past as we travel through different films and eras. So let’s travel together in our own little time machine.
That would be lovely. While I can’t guarantee it will become a movie of the month any time soon, as our seasons are planned out a little in advance, I’d love to hear from you. Use the ‘Get in Touch’ button to the left or scroll to the top to find the Contact link.
I hear you, 21st century life is wildly busy. That’s is why I believe making time to do something that’s not “productive” is a necessary gift for yourself. Whether that’s taking a couple of hours to watch a movie, reading book or going for a run. The good thing about the club is that it’s only one film a month, usually less than two hours that you can watch anytime it)s convenient (you don’t even have to watch it all in one go!) and we have scheduled watch parties to help you carve out time, if you prefer a little more structure.
I hope these answer any questions you may have about the more technical aspects of the film club, but if I’ve missed something, please ask me using the button below ↓
The films are chosen based on our quarterly theme and will always have female focus. That may be in the form of their writers, director, stars or their characters. I discard any movies that contain the most offensive content (which is a heck of a lot of them) so that we can watch with relative safety. I say relative because the movies are form a different time and reflect the are in which they were made.
I check the major, non subscription services and include links to Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube where available. Occasionally, I have to look further afield for the less well known movies and have been known to include links to Archive.Org and Daily Motion. The Criterion Collection as well as TCM are great for finding classic films if you have access to them.
Unfortunately, not all of the links work in every country and I often can’t tell which will, so if you’re having trouble finding a movie where you are just email me, or reply to one of mine and I’ll figure it out.
If you’re reading this, then I expect you’re all set to go! You’ll just need:
🍿a device to connect to the internet (to stream the movies)
🍿an internet connection
🍿an email address (to sign up and receive all your monthly movie goodies)
🍿a PDF reader (to open the Trivia, recipe cards and diary, as well as access the links). Most devices come with a way to read pdfs already installed. But if you need one, I recommend Adobe Acrobat ReaderAdobe Acrobat Reader
Cancelling is really easy, all it takes is a few clicks. The nitty, gritty details are in your welcome email but if you can’t find it (or deleted it😉) then the link will be in your Time Machine console. And if all else fails, or you prefer the human touch, email me and I’ll get it sorted out for you.
Some are. Absolutely sickeningly so. That’s one of the reasons to join the film club, I watch all the terrible (and sometimes painful) movies so you don’t have to. I filter out the awful ones so we can focus on enjoying movies that entertain us and give us a glimpse of the past without feeling sick.
Occasionally, a movie pick will contain outdated language or portrayals because that’s what the world was like but I make plot is never driven by any harmful tropes and will always come with a warning in the Trivia pdf so you can go in to the movie fully aware.
One thing I would say is that, as unpleasant as some of the things said or depictions of certain people can be, they reflect a commonly held viewpoint of the time and one which many people would have had to navigate every day. I feel it’s our duty to witness that so we can understand better how we arrived at the world we live in today, see where we have evolved and not forget what so many people endured. They often went through hell, we owe it to them to not pretend it didn’t happen.
I don’t believe watching and enjoying classic movies (or literature or music or any form of art for that matter) automatically makes you a bad person: I think it’s all about how you consume and use that media. Does it fuel a prejudice or does it help you recognise and challenge those prejudices today?
